2017 Signature Events

As birthday celebrations go, 2017 is a mighty big one for Canada, which will mark 150 years since its birth as a nation unto itself. Discover Charlottetown during 2017, as it commemorates Canada's storied past, rich culture, bright future and showcases its unique and important role in Canada's founding as the Birthplace of Confederation. It all began here in PEI's capital where there Fathers met in 1864, had a hopping Island-style party and the notion of forming a nation was conceived.

Million Dollar Quartet at The Confederation Centre (Jun. 14 - Sept. 23)
The Confederation Centre of the Arts mainstage production, Million Dollar Quartet, will celebrate musical icons Johnny Cash. Elvis Presley. Jerry Lee Lewis. Carl Perkins. They came together to make music and ended up making history. Set in a Memphis studio, this story-and-song musical brings to light an extraordinary tale of broken promises, secrets, and a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of four friends that is both poignant and heartwarming. Featured are such hallmark hits as Blue Suede Shoes, Hound Dog, Fever, Great Balls Of Fire, Walk The Line, Folsom Prison Blues, and many more. More >>

Re: Collection Exhibition – Confederation Centre Art Gallery (Jun. 17 - Dec. 31)
The Confederation Centre Art Gallery will present the commemorative exhibition RE:collection in 2017. Taking over the entire 1,000 square meters of gallery space, this show will explore the building of a major Canadian art collection since 1964 as both a mission and a reflection on the evolving country, its history, geography, people, and communities. Featured will be L.M. Montgomery’s novel manuscript for Anne of Green Gables; selections from the Robert Harris collection; the Expo 67 craft collection; and the commissioned ‘Confederation Murals including Jack Shadbolt’s Flag Mural and Wanda Koop’s Native Fires, 1999, along with a new commission in this series. www.confederationcentre.com/artgallery

Signatures: A Canadian spectacle, under the stars (June 25 - Oct. 1)
Join us in historic downtown Charlottetown for a free multi-media experience in celebration of Canada 150. This visually- stunning show will invite you to pay homage to iconic moments in Canadian history, marvel at the beauty of the nation's people and landscapes, and celebrate its bright future. Signatures will play 7 days a week, outdoors, at dusk from June 25 - Oct 1, 2017 on the sandstone walls of Confederation Centre of the Arts. Anne of Green Gables - The Musical at The Confederation Centre (June 26 - Sept. 23)
Canada’s favourite musical returns to the Confederation Centre of the Arts mainstage for season #53! A Canadian classic, Anne of Green Gables is guaranteed to tug at heartstrings and tickle funny bones. A Misfortune at The Mack (Sept. 7 - 22)
Head to The Mack for the world premiere of a new Canadian musical! Adapted from a short story by Anton Chekhov, this romantic, bittersweet musical is about small moments and momentous decisions. The story follows a young lawyer and a married woman in pre-revolutionary Russia on a walk through the woods; their friendship has reached an impasse. Soon they gather with three friends for a night in the country, discussing the inanity of their lives over an evening drink-and with each drink, more sordid secrets are revealed. More >>

Farm Day in the City (Oct 1)
Fall in love with fresh and join farmers, producers, crafters, and artisans from across Prince Edward Island for the largest outdoor market the year. Spend the day in downtown Charlottetown enjoying local music, face painting, balloon twisting and more.  This free open-air market takes place on Queen Street, starting at Grafton Street, along Victoria Row and on the Confederation Centre plaza.
