Victorian Christmas Weekend Recap

From November 24th to 26th, the spirit of the holiday season was celebrated in all its splendour with the 3rd Annual Victorian Christmas Weekend (including the Victorian Christmas Market), organized by Discover Charlottetown with the support and assistance of many funding and programming partners.

This year we moved the dates of the Weekend to coincide with the City's Christmas Tree Lighting and Christmas Parade. The Etsy Holiday Market at the Murphy Community Centre also took place Nov 25th & 26th, providing shoppers with the opportunity to visit two markets in downtown Charlottetown, along with many wonderful merchants in the immediate vicinity.

The warm, dry weather on Friday and Saturday, combined with an impressive line-up of free programming, high quality markets, and classic holiday traditions made for an extremely successful event. It's safe to say that moving the dates of the Weekend was a success and a new tradition was born!

Here are just a few highlights of the Weekend:

Deck the Row All Year Round!

Discover Charlottetown decked Victoria Row out in gorgeous tree lights that will make the Row sparkle all winter long and in the summer too!

Free Horse & Wagon Rides

Always a popular part of Victorian Christmas Weekend, Discover Charlottetown partnered with the City of Charlottetown to offer free horse and wagon rides throughout the weekend. Huge thanks to the folks (and horses!) from Great Northern Adventures for bringing this magical experience to the city!

A Bustling Victorian Christmas Market

The Victorian Christmas Market featured 50 vendors and was open Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday. Plenty of programming took place at the market throughout the weekend including: visits with Santa & Mrs. Claus, carolling by several community groups, singalongs with Jill Chandler, ice sculpting demonstrations by Abe Waterman, historical walking tours by the Confederation Players, church tours by Experience PEI, and a petting zoo. A merry time was had by all!

A Magical Weekend Thanks to You
HUGE thanks to Victorian Christmas Weekend's funding partners: ACOA, the Department of Economic Development and Tourism, the City of Charlottetown, Confederation Court Mall, the Special Events Reserve Fund, and Downtown Charlottetown Inc. Much gratitude to the many businesses, organizations, community groups and individuals that made it possible to deliver a stellar weekend of programming for all ages. And, of course, we couldn't have done it without the amazing vendors that made the market so special, the many volunteers that helped before, during and after the event, and Island Pride Garden Co., who provided the stunning decor. Hats off to all involved and all those that came out to experience the Weekend!
